Considering ebook publishing? It’s taking off. Keep in mind that if you’re a self publishing author, you’re a publisher too.

I’ve long been a fan of mystery novelist Julie Smith. Her books are engaging, and enjoyable reads. These days, Julie Smith is also an ebook publisher at booksBnimble.

According to this article, she invested $50,000 in her publishing business, which is growing steadily:

At first, the sales trickled in. Four or five in one week. Four or five in a day. As she added more authors, she also acquired the rights to her backlist, renewing sales of her own novels.

Which goes to show, in ebook publishing, as with any business, you need to be patient and wait for the business to grow.

Ebook publishing: if you’re an ebook author, you’re a publisher too

Self publishing authors can learn a lot from Julie Smith’s commitment to quality. All books need editors, and that includes self published books. Can’t afford professional editing? You can always trade editing tasks with a fellow author, if money’s tight.

You can also take to heart that you’re running a business, and as you can see from booksBnimble, businesses take time to grow. That doesn’t mean you need to rush and self publish your ebooks before they’re ready. However, the more ebooks you have available, the more you will sell.

Some readers will buy everything you write. I’m very much like that — if I enjoy an author, I’ll buy every book on Amazon.

It makes me laugh when I read that “too many books” are being published. As a voracious reader, who reads around ten books a week, I know that’s nonsense. Readers know what they enjoy, and are always looking for new authors they can glom onto.

Julie Smith is an inspiration. However, no matter how much success she achieves as  a publisher, I hope she continues to write her mystery novels.

Ebook Creation and Sales: 5 Easy Ways to Sell Your Ebooks

Write AND Sell Your Ebooks With Angela's No-Fail Ebook Sales Formula

You’ve written a book, or an ebook. Or perhaps you’ve written several. Either way, you want to sell them. You’ve got lots of options, and in this article, we’ll look at some of them.

Many people are making big money from ebooks. Some are making a few hundred dollars a month, others like Mike Geary make millions. Either way, you need to promote your ebooks. If you’re clever (see my ebook sales formula), you’ll do both at the same time.

Before we get started, a little hint. There’s no magic bullet when it comes to sales. I know some people advise hammering your social media connections with sales messages. Please don’t do this. The people who tell you that it works as a solo strategy are lying. You need an integrated marketing program.

Here are five easy ways to sell your ebooks.

1. Create a Website Page and a Mailing List

Basic, and boring, right? Yes, it is. However, it’s also the foundation of your ebook writing and selling success. It’s VERY difficult to get attention in the online world. Once a reader is interested in your ebooks, you need a way to communicate with them again; your list helps you to do that.

I’ve used aweber (affiliate link) to create my mailing lists for many years. I heartily recommend them.

2. Create a Blog: Use It to Feed Traffic

Next, create a blog, and feed the traffic from that blog to your website, using links.

You can blog about anything you like, however make sure it’s relevant to your ebooks, in some way.

For example, if you’ve written an ebook about dating and romance, blog about those topics.

If you’re writing fiction, then stick to blogging about your genre (mystery, romance, thrillers, whatever.) You can throw in the occasional off-topic post, but don’t make a habit of it, unless you’re JK Rowling.

3. Goodreads’ Author Program

Use this program. It’s excellent. Authors do very well with it; you can too.

4. Social Media: Broadcast, and Interact

Now we get to social media. The key word is “social.” Use social media to feed traffic to your blog and website. Don’t try to sell on social media, you’ll only annoy people.

Create pages for your ebooks on Facebook, and on Google+.

5. Press Releases: Get Attention

You can’t get more old-fashioned than press releases. However, these days, you’re writing online press releases, and you’re writing them for your readers, rather than for the media.

Of course, if the media pick up on your press releases, that’s great. It’s not essential however.

There you have it — five easy ways to sell your ebooks. Use them all. They work.
