If you’re an author who hates ebook promotion, you know you need to build a readers’ list, but it seems complicated. It’s not. You can create a simple webpage, and direct your readers to that so that they can sign up to your list.
We’ve discussed using Squarespace for simple one-page websites. Squarespace creates gorgeous one-page websites, which look great on any device. A couple of readers asked about other options. While there are endless ways you can create an ebook launch page, from the simple to the complex, it’s best to stick to something simple if you’re new to website creation.
If you’re on Facebook, you can create a page there for your new ebook, and add your signup form. Here’s how to do it with aweber.
What you need for a ebook promotions page
Gather your materials before you create your page.
- LINKS! You know I’m adamant when I use an exclamation mark, because I hate them. To repeat: LINKS! :-) It’s amazing how often I reach an author’s page, and find zero links to ebook product pages at the online ebook retailers so that readers can BUY. I’ve no idea why that is. Lack of links affects traditionally published authors as much as it does indies. So, again… LINKS!
- Images: your ebook cover, a logo if you use one, your author photo, and other images too, if you like;
- Content — your ebook’s description, plus a brief excerpt;
- Signup content: a brief call to action, so that readers who arrive at your page know that they can sign up to your mailing list.
Do you need a freebie?
Authors often ask about a freebie, as an enticement for readers to sign up to their mailing lists. They get frantic about their freebie. Relax. You don’t need one. You can offer one if you wish: a short story, or a short report, but it isn’t essential.
After you’ve gathered your materials, it won’t take you longer than 15 minutes to put up your ebook promotion page. Remember — add the URL to the front or back matter of your ebooks. Then start promoting your page. Have fun. :-)
