Are you writing Web articles to sell your products and services? Article marketing is a great way of promoting your business because the returns on your investment are greater than for any other form of advertising. Your articles stay online for years, and send traffic to your site for years.
However although your articles are advertising, they shouldn’t be perceived as advertising. Your customers should look on your articles as useful information you’re giving them to help them to make purchasing decisions, and for general educational purposes.
Here are four steps to writing Web articles which sell.
1. Who’s the Audience?
When you write an article, you’re providing information to your audience. So before you write, think about your audience. Who are they?
The easiest way to discover who your audience is is to check your Web site referrer logs. The search terms which brought your customers to your site will tell you who they are.
You can also create a simple poll to learn more about who your customers are. Offer a reward for completing the poll and keep the poll short.
2. What Does the Audience Need Help With?
When you know who your customers are, it’s time to think about what they need help with. Occasionally this is obvious; you’ll know by the enquiries you get and by the questions your support staff is asked.
But don’t wait to be asked about a particular product. Develop an educational campaign for each product and service which you offer. Providing education and instruction will cut down on the number of returns you get, and also on the number of support queries. Writing article is a perfect way to educate your customers.
3. Information Which Sells
Your customers buy a product because they want the benefits a product gives them. So if you can educate your customers about your products’ benefits with articles, you’ll sell more.
Some of the benefits of your products won’t be immediately obvious. Think about your products in terms of somebody who is completely new to them. You may know why your product costs more than competing products, but your customers don’t know. Educate them via articles.
4. the Resource Box Is an Advertisement
After you’ve given free information in your articles, the “resource box” or “bio” at the end of the article is your chance to promote your product or service. Use the bio in exactly the same way you’d use a classified ad or other advertisement. Spend time crafting each resource box carefully, it’s your chance to sell your customers.
