SEO: the importance of creating SEO reports

“How’s your site ranking?”

Yes, it’s a trick question, because your SITE doesn’t rank – your PAGES do.

In the past few months, since I’ve been offering search engine optimization (SEO) copywriting to clients, I’ve been surprised that none of my clients have ever done reports on their site.

A site report includes:

* landing pages chosen and assessed, and current ranking status for each page noted (#10 on SERPs for chosen keywords/ #300 for chosen keywords – or, not in index);

* preferred keywords, and the difficult of ranking for those keywords;

* current backlinks to each of the landing pages;

* primary competitors;

* etc.

As you work to improve your site’s search engine optimization, by writing fresh copy, creating new landing pages, and getting additional backlinks, you need to create monthly reports to check your status.

Only when you know where you are, can you steer a direct course to where you want to go.
