Blogging: integrate your blog into your business

by angela.booth on September 25, 2006

I’ve been blogging in various formats – from Blogger.com to WordPress – for around four years.

If I were starting out blogging today, I’d do a lot of things differently. No, I’m not kicking myself for making mistakes, because the stuff I’d do now I couldn’t do in 2002, the technology wasn’t available.

If I were starting a blog today, I would:

* Blog more from my clients’ point of view - in 2002, I treated my blogs as a learning experience. I should have spent more time thinking about what my clients wanted from me. I could have promoted myself and the blogs better by integrating news releases etc with blogging;

* Remember the search engines, and use keywords – the first four words of a blog item’s title are important, because the search engines indexes treat these as the most important words;

* Buy a domain for each blog. Not buying a domain for a blog is a mistake, no question;

* Integrate the blog more with my Web site. I’m working on this, and making it a regular part of my SEO efforts;

* Look at rich media, specifically audio and video.

Feel free to learn from my mistakes. :-)
