What can your Web site learn from the success of Wikipedia?

From Search Engine Roundtable:

Wikipedia is, by its own “simple self portrait” an encyclopedia that anyone can change or add-to. Of course, there are editors, who seem to do a pretty good job of keeping content relevant and useful, and of removing blatant attempts of “link dropping.”

Wikipedia offers information on every topic imaginable. Over time, it’s become a respected online destination. Occasionally there are hassles with the information added, but the community pretty much takes care of that.

From the success of Wikipedia, you can learn that:

* The more information, the better;

* Get others to provide information if possible;

* Make your site an information resource;

* Link out to other resources;

* By making your site an information resource, you’re promoting yourself as an authority on your industry.
