Some companies are realizing the search engine marketing benefits of blogging and are going for it in a big way. Ice.com, an online jewelry retailer for example, has three blogs. But you’d never know it from the home page of the site.
I scanned the home page, but couldn’t find any mention of the blogs until I looked at the site map. The site map isn’t highly visible, you’ve got to be looking for it.
Obviously, Ice.com is blogging because of the search engine marketing benefits. If customers come to the site via other marketing means, or through their affiliates, they don’t want to distract them from the (lovely) jewelry by giving them something to read.
If you’re an online retailer, you might want to consider using Ice.com’s strategy, and use your blogs to attract the attention of customer’s who wouldn’t find you otherwise.
