I’m a copywriter by trade, so occasionally I’ll bid on projects posted on Elance, the online out-sourcing marketplace.
Although the marketplace works amazingly well, and most buyers and sellers are honest, you also get lots of smarties. The most prevalent of the smarties are the ones who want to hire writers to steal others’ work. They believe that stealing by another name is not actually stealing. It is STEALING Bubba, it’s stealing.
These “it’s not stealing, because it’s rewriting” projects are described in various ways:
This project will consist of the rewriting of 2 small money making programs (about 10 pages each) and making them legal and ethical for me to sell;
This project will consist of rewriting this Web site;
This project will consist of rewriting this 100-page book so there’ll be no accusations of plagiarism.
It’s stealing, Bubba. Stealing. Why is that so hard for you to understand? (The short answer is because you’re a sly moron.)
