Do you have a brand? Or just a business? A couple of years ago I write an ebook for writers called Tell, Yell and Sell: Marketing Skills for Writers. (It’s a great ebook, if you’re a writer and you want more work than you can handle, check it out.)
The thrust of branding is that in essence your brand is YOU (your business). It’s the feelings that people have about you when they hear your name. It also includes the associations which build up around a branded name. What do you think of when you hear: McDonald’s?
Generally speaking, branding happens over time. It’s not instantaneous. People have to learn your name, and associate it with what you do. Slowly, you will build a brand. Your brand is your image, yes, but it’s also a lot more than your image. Your brand also contains a promise.
Branding is a challenge for everyone. The golden iconic figure above with the pen is my new branding symbol. It’s my new branding mascot; a reminder to build my own brand. Thought for the day: What’s YOUR brand? How will you build it?
