An “editorial linking policy” simply means that you consider your inbound and outbound links to be a part of your content, and as such, they’re integrated into that content. The links are part of the editorial information on your pages. Integrating your links is much more effective than just creating a Links page, or a Directory page.

Although the search engines reward this kind of linking, what it does for YOU is much more important, because it forces you to think about WHY you’re linking. The search engines are getting much smarter at recognizing good content than they were, and you’ll never need to worry that you’ll be penalized for your linking policy.

You can integrate your links in any way you wish. Here are some ideas:

* Add link partners to your content pages with an end-page section called “Resources” — yes, this is your Links page sneaking back into view scattered across multiple pages of your site.

* Write 100-word mini-essays/ reviews for each of your links, adding the links as text links. Scatter these on appropriate pages of your site.

* Blog. Blogs are made for links. Take care to develop internal links among your blog posts.
