10. Tagging your posts (Blog your business)
You’ve started a business blog, and you’re confused about tagging: what’s the difference between tagging and categorizing?
Um… (shuffles feet, looks down, looks upward for inspiration).
OK.
A category is a group of posts on the same topic. If you look in the sidebar you’ll see various categories I’ve created for posts on this blog.
Tags, (and this is my definition) are associations and labels, defined by the user. You create your own tags, as do others. Look at IceRocket’s tag cloud to see tags in action across the blogosphere.
Don’t overthink tags: create your own tags, then click on a tag to see what labels others have used on the same topic. You’ll often find interesting ideas and associations in this way.
