8. How to write your first blog posting (blog your business)
You’re ready to blog, but you’re not sure how to start. WHAT will you blog about?
Your options for blogging about your business are endless, but at this stage, think of the difference between your Web site and your blog. Your site is part of the static Web – the part of the Web which doesn’t change much. Yes, on news sites the news is different every day, but it’s still news, just as on e-commcerce sites like Amazon.com the offerings change, but it’s still a sales catalog.
Your blog is part of the live Web: the people Web. People blog about anything and everything, but usually they blog about what concerns them in the moment.
What’s happening in your business? Are you releasing a new widget? Are you opening or closing a new plant? What are you impressed by? What are your customers saying to you?
Who’s your audience?
It’s also helpful to think about your audience. Don’t think about thousands of people sitting at computer screens. Think about one person, and what you want to say to him or her.
There’s no one best-practice way to blog. Write your first blog post, and then write another one. By the time you’ve written your fourth blog post, you’ll have discovered a way of blogging that works for you.
