You’ve decided that a blog can help your business, so now it’s time to discover who else is blogging in your niche. It’s probably many more businesses than you expect; perhaps your biggest competitor is (shock!) already blogging. It’s time to investigate: to hunt for, and gather blog news feeds.
We discussed blog search engines in the previous post, so start your search for blogs in your niche/ industry at Technorati and BlogPulse. Just type in a keyword associated with your industry. You should discover a fine collection of blogs.
You’ll want to bookmark the best blogs to read at your leisure, but don’t bother. The blogosphere delivers: you can subscribe to blogs’ RSS feeds.
You need a news reader
A blog news reader is also called an “RSS reader” or “news aggregator”, and there’s a huge choice of programs.
If you want to access your news feeds from different computers, using a Web-based reader is a good solution. Bloglines is popular and is easy to use.
OTOH, if you’d rather have a desktop news reader, there are many from which you can choose, depending on your computer’s operating system. Here’s a huge list of aggregators.
Happy feed collecting. :-)
