Blog search engine Technorati claims on its About page that it’s tracking 75 million blogs, and that around 75,000 new blogs are created A DAY. Now assuming that three-quarters of those new “blogs” are spam blogs, or ‘splogs’, that still leaves a lot of people who are suddenly discovering that they have something to say and that they should say it on a blog. What are all those people talking about?
Many of them are talking about business: they’re blogging because it helps their business, whether that business is online or offline, because blogging equal links equals traffic equals sales equals… staying in business.
Unlike other Web search engines, Technorati’s data is live. It uses “tags” (labels) to track bloggers’ conversations. Since the data is live, when you go to Technorati you discover what’s being discussed right now. If you’ve just updated a software program for example, and now it won’t run, you can go to Technorati and find other unfortunates who’re having that same experience. Between the lot of you you should be able to come up with a solution.
Since bloggers blog anywhere and everywhere, they blog during and after disastrous events, like earthquakes and terrorist attacks. If something’s happening, the blogosphere will often be able to give you more immediate information than the news media.
If you’re business blogging, use Technorati’s WatchList to find out what’s being said about your business. You can save your lists, and subscribe to them, reading your WatchLists in your favorite news reader: you’ll know immediately when someone blogs about your business, your products and your services. Blog searches equal fast and accurate business intelligence.
You can USE that business intelligence: when you start blogging it will become your most valuable (free) business asset.
